Stinky or Sweet

2 Peter 1:5-11  …make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. . . . for if you do these things you will never fall, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
There are times in our lives when life is “stinky” as my good friend texted me while I was sitting at Starbucks this week.  Things happen and we don’t always know how to respond.  Emotions start invading us and we don’t always react in the way we should.  These verses in 2 Peter remind me that no matter what happens we should make every effort to have faith, goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness and love in our lives.   It’s a long list, but having this knowledge will give us the strength and courage to possess the qualities God desires in us.
Whether life is stinky or sweet, when we keep our noses directed towards Him it sure is comforting to know God will never let us fall.
